DC-area firm continues wide-ranging relationship with Wizards as consultant-partner for historic trip

Starbridge Media Group, Inc. announced today that company executives and a high-profile delegation from the National Basketball Association’s Washington Wizards are traveling to China in early September on a two-week goodwill trip to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Wizards/Bullets historic visit to China in 1979.

The organization’s 1979 trip was the first-ever by an NBA team and took place at the invitation of China’s then-leader Deng Xiao Ping to team owner Abe Pollin, who continues to oversee the team as the league’s longest-tenured owner. The 1979 visit by the then-Washington Bullets was part of the renewed relations between the United States and China, in follow-up to Deng’s visit to the US and the signing of the Normalization of Relations with American President Jimmy Carter that same year.

The delegation traveling to China in September will consist of current and former Wizards/Bullets players and high-ranking team executives and former head coaches, including current all-star Caron Butler and Hall of Fame player and former Head Coach Wes Unseld, who also captained the 1979 team that traveled to China.

The trip is being hosted by The China People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and will also involve the US State Department, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC.
